Hello and Welcome to our Website
We are very proud of our school, which is a large primary school, which opened in September 2008. Our delightful pupils are aged 3 to 11 and when they leave our school they move on to a range of secondary schools in Derby City.
In the school year 2013/14 we increased to 3 reception year classes, 6 key stage 1 classes and 10 key stage 2 classes. We expect this to increase in the coming years. To accommodate this increase in pupils we have had 3 extensions on the school which have given us 4 new classrooms.
The school has a school hall which is used for a wide range of things including Breakfast Club, assemblies, sports lessons, dance classes, drama sessions, eating lunch and a wide range of after schools clubs. We also have a number of additional rooms which we use for targeted interventions, speech and language therapy and cookery. We have extensive grounds with sports fields, a trim trail, a pond, a remembrance garden and a large tarmac playground with 2 multi-use games areas.
Each classroom has a fulltime teaching assistant and we have a number of pastoral staff who support us in keeping our children safe and achieving their potential. The team also provide support to families when needed.
We provide a range of extra-curricular activities for our pupils at lunchtime and after school. We also provide a daily breakfast club and after school care is available to help support busy and working families.
Our school facilities are used regularly by the local community for sporting activities, neighbourhood group meetings and charity events. Details of our charging and lettings policy can be found in the policies’ section.
In September 2012 we formed a federation with Alvaston Junior School and governors and staff started working across both schools.
Children at Village Primary School achieve excellent test results in their end of key stage 2 [year 6] tests. Many of our results exceed the national average. Details of our school performance can be seen at: www.education.gov.uk/schools/performance
We are also very proud of our pupils’ fantastic behaviour, which is frequently commended by visitors to the school and members of the public on school visits.
We were delighted when in October 2012 Ofsted visited the school and recognised the many positive features of our provision. The school was graded ’good’ in all areas and our ‘getting to outstanding’ plan is focusing our development work to ensure we achieve an overall ‘outstanding’ grade at our next inspection.
